Subject: Senior Management Review of the Safety System minutes of January 8, 2007

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Commission receive for information, the minutes of the January 8, 2007 Senior Management Review of the Safety System meeting.

Funding

Captured in the Operating and Capital budgets.

Background

At it’s meeting on March 24, 2004, the Committee of the Whole requested to have updates from the Senior Management Review of the Safety System submitted to the Committee on a quarterly basis.

Discussion

Senior Management meets a minimum of four times per year to review the safety system at TTC, to ensure it’s continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness and to address the need for changes to policies, objectives and other elements of the safety system.

Justification

Commissioners have a duty under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, to take all reasonable care to ensure that TTC complies with the Act and the regulations.  Similarly, the Commission has a Criminal Code duty of reasonable care for occupational and public safety.
