Easier Access Project Spring 2019 Update

TTC’s Easier Access Program will make subway stations accessible. Dupont Station’s Easier Access Project schedule is currently under review.

Significant delays have occurred due to issues with the private sector contractor and its surety. TTC is working closely with the contractor to determine a new timeline to complete the Easier Access work at this station, however, the timeline remains to be determined at this time.

In April 2019, the contractor responsible for this project, was granted creditor protection by an Ontario Court. This was the latest setback for this project, one in which the contractor was unable to meet performance targets.

As an interim measure, the TTC has (since mid-2018) restricted the contractor from bidding on any future TTC projects until such time the Dupont Station Easier Access Contract is certified, all elevators have both passed the TSSA acceptance inspections and TSSA has approved the operating licenses. At which time the contractor may write to the TTC to request that the restrictions be lifted and TTC will consider the performance history of the contractor at the TTC up to that date, as well as any other relevant information, in making that determination.

We know this has been frustrating for local residents and businesses and TTC management staff are meeting regularly with the contractor’s surety to confirm a revised work plan and completion schedule as quickly as possible.

Construction at the Spadina/Dupont intersection is ongoing, however. Please see below for an update in that regard:

Spadina/Dupont Intersection:

Excavation for the two elevator shafts (E1 and E3) is now complete. The Contractor is progressing with elevator shaft construction for these elevators. During the next stage of work, crews will be conducting demolition work such as jack hammering, saw cutting, and installation of reinforcing steel and concrete placement(s).

Construction related noise is expected such as back up alarms from trucks, delivery and removal of disposal bins, as well as delivery of construction material.

Throughout the project, every effort to keep noise to a minimum will be made, however this type of work does cause unavoidable construction noise.

Work Hours

The majority of work will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., as required. Some overnight and weekend work will be required during the course of this project in order to complete the work as quickly as possible.


Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from construction equipment.

Transit Service

26 Dupont and 127 Davenport service will be maintained through the intersection during the work. Bus stops will be relocated to a nearby location, as required.
