What we are doing and why

TTC will be conducting some utility work and removing old TTC poles in the vicinity of Main Street and Danforth Avenue. The majority of the utility work will take place at the north-east corner of the intersection. Approximately four old TTC poles will be removed on Main Street over the course of two weeks – 3 on the north side of Danforth and 1 on the south side of Danforth.

There are no expected utility impacts to the local area.

Work

  • A small trench will be excavated on the roadway, at the north-east corner of the intersection.
  • Activities will include saw-cutting and minor concrete chipping to remove the old poles.
  • Equipment, materials and the work zone/traffic controls will be installed and removed daily.

Work Zone

Beginning as early as Wednesday, March 24 at 7 a.m., crews will begin setting up a safe work zone and temporary traffic controls.

Traffic, parking, pedestrian and cyclist details

  • During working hours, there will be temporary lane restrictions to create a safe work zone.
  • One northbound lane on Main Street through the work area maintained.
  • One westbound lane on Danforth Avenue through the work area maintained.
  • The east-west pedestrian crosswalk on the north side of the intersection will be maintained as best as possible.
  • During pole removals, there may be temporary sidewalk closures on Main Street for safety.
  • Equipment, materials and the work zone/traffic controls will be installed and removed daily.

Work hours and timeline

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Efforts will be made to complete the work sooner with extended hours, as required.
